In this episode, Mark Podolsky, Scott Bossman, Mike Zaino, and Jon Burnett welcome Sid Christensen to discuss his journey from a physically demanding W-2 construction job to becoming a full-time land investor and the newest Land Geek coach. Sid shares how a broken leg pushed him to seriously explore land investing, how he gradually transitioned away from working for his dad, and how the business eventually allowed his wife to stay home.
The conversation highlights Sid’s biggest lessons: take action, stay consistent, build systems, and don’t be afraid to simply be yourself when talking with sellers and buyers. His story shows how small, steady steps can create meaningful financial and lifestyle changes over time.
Tune in as the team discusses:
- How Sid Christensen discovered land investing while recovering from a broken leg.
- Why he chose land investing over long-term rentals, short-term rentals, and physical-product businesses.
- How Sid gradually transitioned from construction work to land investing full time.
- The first property he bought, including the flood-zone mistake that taught him valuable due-diligence lessons.
- Why consistency matters more than intensity when building a land business.
- How recurring reminders and systems helped Sid stay consistent with marketing and other tasks.
- Why being authentic and talking about things you genuinely enjoy can help build connections with sellers and buyers.
- How community and relationships helped Sid gain confidence and eventually become a Land Geek coach.
- Sid’s approach to choosing counties, including why starting with two or three can help new investors learn what works for them.
- How Sid uses ongoing “land focus time” to keep learning and improving his business.
TIP OF THE WEEK
Mark Podolsky: Don’t try to become someone you’re not when talking to sellers or buyers. Authentic conversations build stronger connections and make the process more natural.
Scott Bossman: Focus on consistency rather than intensity. Small actions repeated over time can build a land business and eventually create the freedom you’re looking for.
Mike Zaino: Remember that you don’t have to figure everything out alone. Having people in your corner to share ideas, ask questions, and learn from can make a huge difference.
Jon Burnett: Create systems that remind you what needs to happen next. Taking the thinking out of recurring tasks makes it easier to stay consistent.
Sid Christensen: Take action and keep showing up. You’ll make mistakes along the way, but consistency and persistence can move you through the inevitable ups and downs.
